Fell Asleep

After a long day of Mrs. Sanchez’s third grade class, I was good and ready to go home. The teacher hollered out “ONE MINUTE!” The bell rung and the cattle were headed home. Many students scrambled to the door and headed for the buses lined up outside. I eagerly pushed my way out the door.

I then ran down to my bus. Yes! I thought to myself. Students were running like it was the end of the world. There were only two people ahead of me, so I was sure I was going to get one of the backseats. The backseats were glorified by many and could only be occupied by few.

Finally, the bus driver opened the door and let us in. I went flying to the back of the bus, wanting to get a seat by the window. I don’t know how I got one of the backseats by the window, but I did. The bus was almost ready to leave the school and I couldn’t wait to be home. I knew the bed was waiting.

As we left the school I began to feel a bit drowsy. The children on the bus were loud but that didn’t bother me. I tried my best to stay awake but I gave in to sleep. I fell into a dream world of the Super Mario bros. In my dreams I could see myself running along Mario as he ran through different levels. Mario would look at me and say “Hurry up! I’ve gotta find the Princess!”

Suddenly! I heard a voice in the background. I felt someone tugging on my shirt. My eyes slowly focused in on the object beside me. IT WAS MY BUS DRIVER! I stood up and there were no more children in the bus. I had missed my stop and now I was stranded at the bus barn.

The bus driver told me to follow him inside the building. As I walked I began to worry. What if I get in trouble? What’s my mom going to say? Is she going to spank me until me bottom turns red? The bus driver just told me to call my parents. I called and luckily my mom answered. I was very grateful that I didn’t have to walk home.

When I waited for my mom, I noticed I wasn’t tired anymore. I was thinking of the long walk I would have to endure, like the previous time before. This was the second time I had fell asleep in the bus. I said to myself “I will never again fall asleep on the bus”.
